For Rent: Apt equipped with convenience store and cemetery
Posted by Kristen on Jan 6, 2007 in Uncategorized | 2 commentsToday we drove up to our temporary home in Falls Church, VA. There were tears shed as we pulled up the hill and our new home became visible through the trees. Coming from Dallas where things at least appear to be nice we were slightly disappointed by the outer appearance. In addition, it backs up to a cemetery. I am not a superstitious person but really who wants to live next to a cemetery. At least they’ll be quiet neighbors!
The inside of our apartment happens to be much nicer than it appears on the outside. It feels as though we are living in a hotel which will take some getting used to. We hung a wreath on our front door so that I could at least pretend to make it “homey”! Foreign Service training starts on Monday and then the bidding begins.
Glad to hear that you got there safely. I tried to look at the apartments on Google maps using the Hybrid button and I could see that it’s sort of a high-rise apartment which can be very unattractive, but it’s good that the inside is nice.
When Mom and I were driving around the area last April, we noticed that a lot of rather not-nice-looking apartments were really expensive to rent and based on their brochures, were really nice inside. I suppose that because everything is so expensive in the area, remodeling apartment facades would probably just make rent too expensive.
So how long will you be in this apartment before moving to your one in Arlington?
We’re praying for you and love you both! It’s an adventure, so take notes so I can write about it later
