Where in the World #5
Posted by Kristen on Jul 13, 2008 in Foreign Service, Travel | 21 commentsI guess we finally got one hard enough for our parents to not guess. Nope, it’s not Australia. It’s not Hong Kong. It’s Berlin. Bo and Leigh we could be close!!! But since we wouldn’t arrive until we learned German, we would arrive in roughly the middle of 2010. Your supporters need to extend to 3 year commitments!!!
On to #5….
The country’s name means “copper.” The apostle Paul visited the country in all three of his missionary trips. The city’s history can be traced back to the Bronze Age and is known locally as Lekosia. Two countries had a war over this country, the birthplace of Zeus, and left the capital city divided to this day.
Okay, on Berlin, why are they the world’s largest exporter?! Dad and I were thinking Manilla or Rio or something on a coast.
What kind of parade is that?
This place is Crete. I had a prof in college whose last name is Nicosia, so I paid more attention to that area of the world then. I think they were fighting then.
Crete would be nice. What language is the national language there?

I keep writing Crete when I mean Cyprus. It’s the influence of Paul’s missionary journeys, Sunday Schools, all those godly things.

We were going to guess Greece, but felt like that was a planned trap because of the whole Zeus thing. And we weren’t sure that the capital city of Athens was divided. I had no idea that Cyprus was having so much trouble. Very, very interesting.

hey guys,
ok, so we are behind in the game. So hope you don’t subtract points and give us a crummy month to come visit. 😉
I’m still thinking Spain would be the most ideal location for all parties involved.
